Snow report Oberstdorf, 12/29/2017
Crunchy snow with sun and a great base
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Good base. Lots of fresh snow. Parking lot at least 40 cm. At the top clearly 50-60 cm. Total snow cover is easily 1.5 m or more. Only the tips of the hiking signs are still sticking out. Great touring conditions even below 1000 m
Snow quality
Not light as a feather, but good powder snow that stayed good all day. New tracks in super powder were possible until 4 pm.
Risks
Tense in the summit area around the Riedbergerhorn as it was blown in. You can also clearly see this on the cornice and a spontaneous descent on the eastern flank. No descents observed in the Grasgehren/Balderschwang ski area... probably also due to the moderate steepness. Ground avalanches may already be an issue on the south side.
Overall impression
Super snowy landscapes around the Riedberger Horn. The snow walls along the road are balm for the freerider's soul. Let's hope that the forecast rain doesn't take too much away and that the snow remains plentiful even at this altitude
