Snow condition
Ski tour in the Radstädter Tauern near Obertauern. Start at 1300 m, ascent and descent possible without any problems. We were mainly in the northern sector today. Rain up to over 2000 m.
Snow quality
Near the ridge, bad crushed harsh snow. In the sparse high forest it got much better. A mixture of firn and wet snow. Fortunately, the sinking depths were manageable and therefore quite ok to ski.
Risks
The foehn wall built up directly on the main ridge today and there was a corresponding wind. The snow plumes were clearly visible. Especially the areas with a little too much snow should be judged very critically. We were able to see numerous loose snow avalanches and a few wet snow avalanches today. The focus was on sunny terrain. You should also keep an eye out for sliding snow cracks. On the descent, we had to change the descent variant slightly twice due to sliding snow cracks. Wet snow was not a problem for us today as we finished the tour early.
Overall impression
Lovely trip, spring-like weather, staying seated for a while without freezing before setting off and then cheese dumplings in the sun afterwards.
