Snow condition

Good snow conditions, north-facing tour starting at approx. 1600 m. Depending on the exposure, there was between 0 cm and 20 cm of settled snow on the hard surface (often somewhat wind-treated). A little difficult to walk on in places, as the few cm of surface slipped away. Some of the exposed sections were heavily blown off (see pictures).

Better than expected. Quite ok to ski in sheltered areas, wind-exposed sections a bit unpleasant. Unfortunately, there were a few clumps of snow in sections with better snow.

Risks

Quite relaxed for us today. We were able to spot a few snow mouths on the ascent and descent and avoided them. The partly quite flat light was the biggest danger today. From a distance, we were able to recognize an older south-facing slope in sunny Obertauern (see picture). With fresh snow, it will be interesting to see how it combines with the harder base, especially in the steeper terrain.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side today. But the snow quality was better than expected and for the first time this season we were all on the mountain together!
