Snow report Obertauern, 02/13/2014

Skitour am Preber (2740) nördlich von Tamsweg Der Aufstieg war hart und gut zu gehen, ab der Waldgrenze hat sich der Wind an jeglichem Schnee zu schaffen gemacht und diesen solide gepresst.

There is generally not much snow for this time of year. It's enough for ski touring, but minor sacrifices on the part of the equipment are to be expected. Below the tree line there is 40-60cm of snow up to 1400m, above that the snow is heavily windblown and there is 0-30cm of very wind-preserved snow

Snow quality

Wind-pressed snow in the morning and hard-packed snow at lower elevations; during the course of the day, boggy "fresh snow" formed below the tree line.

Risks

Due to the small amount of snow, the blown-off slopes are relatively safe near the crest and there are large accumulations of drift snow, especially in the leeward regions.

Overall impression

A beautiful ski touring day with a relatively large amount of snow for us northern Alpine residents. Due to the influence of the wind, there was no chance of making consistent turns or even lines. Rather a nice winter sports day with good weather and acceptable conditions.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
