Snow report Obertauern, 12/12/2016
With a bit of luck, you can still catch a few good turns

Overall impression
Snow condition
Still simply very bad. Above about 2000m, there is partly a closed snow cover in north-eastern exposure. There is now very irregularly distributed 10-20cm of fresh snow with more or less wind influence.
Snow quality
Where the wind had less of an impact, the fresh snow was very nice, with more wind it was a bit more compact but still good to ride. The cover under the fresh snow was always noticeable. In the sun, the snow became heavier over the course of the day.
Risks
In terrain close to the crest and especially high up in the Alps where the wind has raged even more, definitely something to watch out for. Brittle drift snow packs have formed but are easily recognizable. No observations of avalanche activity.
Overall impression
Probably got the best out of the current situation. Great weather and a few turns in powder with the handbrake on. That's as good as it gets at the moment, so I give it a subjective 3 stars.
