Snow condition
When digging a profile at 2300m, the snow was 190cm thick. Although the tour was on the south side of the Ovid Tunnel, where there is significantly less precipitation than north of the tunnel, there was still a good layer of snow. Many stones were exposed in the ridge areas due to the wind.
Video
Snow quality
Due to the warm temperatures in combination with cold nights, the ascent was covered with snow, which then turned into firn in the course of the day
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
A snow profile was dug in an east-facing position at 2400 m on a 35 degree slope. This broke at a depth of 40 cm on the 21st cut. However, the fracture occurred on a compressed snowpack and not on a weak layer.
Overall impression
The tour to the Atdagi at the southern tunnel entrance was a firn delight. We had to use crampons from the halfway point on the ascent to reach the summit. The descent was hard at the top but still easy to ski and there was firn at the bottom.
