Snow condition
I always thought Galtür was a snow hole. Unfortunately, there's no sign of that this winter. If you choose your line well, you can just about avoid stone contact.
Snow quality
The snow wasn't too bad in the valley at the start. But it quickly became very warm, even though the sun wasn't really coming through and we were in the north/northwest sector, and on the descent there wasn't much good powder above 2000m. Below that it was totally sticky and heavy.
Risks
The fresh snow of the last few days had bonded quite well with the old snow. We didn't see any avalanche activity. It was important to finish the tour in good time, as it had become extremely warm.
Overall impression
We went on a short ski tour from Galtür as the snow was no longer suitable for freeriding. You have to look for the snow in the hollows. The area is poor in snow and blown away.
