Snow report Paznaun Valley, 03/10/2017

Snow condition

Largely closed snow cover with sufficient base. But even here there is not a lot of snow for this time of year. Off the beaten track, however, everything is actually possible. In some places there are still lots of stones and bushes that are covered but not completely snowed in. The last snowfall brought 30cm+ over 2000m.

Snow quality

The 3 stars apply to very specific areas. Lots of wind everywhere. Good skiable snow in northern, wind-calm slopes and hollows. Partly (south, east) the snow has melted and refrozen on the surface. Looks like untouched powder, but when you ski in, you only leave a narrow track of the edge (like ice skating). Under 1900 hm slushy.

According to the LLB level 3, you can see very large avalanches everywhere in the valley. Many ridges are covered with cornices and many spontaneous avalanches have come down from extremely steep terrain. Even in the variant area, some steep slopes still look quite loaded. Were defensive on the trail. Wind signs are easily recognizable.

Overall impression

Still good snow in the right places. But everything is quite selective. At this altitude, everything is set for a great late winter!
