Allein am Piz Larain - Fluch oder Segen?
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Blown off near the ridge. Otherwise in the area above 2,000m enough to get by without scratching the surface.
Snow quality
Surprisingly good! Where the wind was blowing in the LUV area and near the ridge, it was very hard in places, which caused me a bit of trouble on the ascent. The rest is the finest powder where you can just enjoy! A constant blanket of snow, with no changing conditions to throw you off your stride.
Risks
The greatest danger comes from drift snow. There are several small drops, but nothing else was observed during the day. The wind is still blowing, so that the ascent track was already blown over in places on the descent! Larger cornices are already forming, which should not be underestimated in the area around 3,000m!
Overall impression
The Heidelberger Hütte doesn't open its doors for another two weeks. So you'll be virtually alone and can enjoy the snow and peace and quiet to the full. Without the hundreds of people who are usually looking for a kick on sunny days.
You will be swearing at the latest when you have to tirelessly track in the fresh powder for 2-3 hours. Most of the area around the Heidelberger Hütte is still untouched. It's hard on the bones, especially without training in the still young season.
Every meter pays off, therefore a proud 4 stars!
