Overall impression
Snow condition
Snow conditions here are not as good as in the main precipitation areas. South-facing ridges and slopes are sometimes only covered with 10-20cm. However, everything that is east west or north has enough snow for freeriding. There is about 20cm of powder on a firm base. Descent into the valley is only possible on alpine meadows and closed pistes. Above 2000, however, there is enough snow for freeriding. However, you have to ski more defensively here as one or two stones are still sticking out. Troughs are generally better.
Snow quality
Super only completely south somewhat influenced by wind. Otherwise very good powder everywhere. Approx. 20cm only crests blown off.
Risks
We were only able to observe small snow slabs and the obligatory sliding snow avalanches on the steep meadow slopes. Much more relaxed than in the main precipitation areas.
Overall impression
Beautiful season opening in Samnaun. Unfortunately, freeriding is only possible on the Greitspitze. But very few people. The Snowcard and leisure ticket are a treat.
