Auf der Sonnenseite der Alpen - Pulverschneereste ernten im Val Maira
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
As already mentioned, the 2 stars are only given because of the low snow conditions on the south side. In the north-facing terrain chambers for this winter (and compared to the Eastern Alps) there is surprisingly "much" snow and stones / boulders / forest is well snowed in.
Snow quality
The 3 stars only apply to the exceptionally good slopes. Due to the warming today, the powder below 1800m has also turned into the worst wet snow on the shaded side, which even rolls onto the ski surface (and makes normal skiing impossible). Depending on the exposure and time of day, there are of course also firn conditions.
Risks
LWD says 2, which is plausible Fresh snow slabs were not observed, only some loose snow slides from steep rocks on the sunny side.
Overall impression
The Val Maira shows its strengths in these snow and weather conditions. We've now had 4 days of glorious weather (bluebird) and powder on every day - but not all the time. But if you look at the south-facing slopes, it's definitely spring, you could even think it's late spring!
The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.
Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
