Snow report Pitztal, 03/11/2020
viel Schnee und dann viel Regen
Snow condition

Overall impression
Snow condition
Tuesday evening looked so promising. Thick white flakes and 30 cm of fresh snow in the valley in no time at all. The optimistic anticipation could hardly be contained. Unfortunately, as forecast, it turned warm and even turned to rain, soaking the snow up to around 2700m.
Snow quality
Wet up to approx. 2000/2500m, above 3000m heavily loaded and hard pressed.
Risks
Some larger avalanches had already occurred spontaneously during the night. Towards the morning, the avalanches were diligently blasted with great success. However, the emergency descent from the Pitztal Glacier was not blown up until around midday and it must have taken a while for the avalanches to be cleared from the piste.
Overall impression
The high hopes for this day were disappointed. After a dream day last Sunday, we would have liked a repeat performance. At high altitudes, the snow was heavily packed, pressed or capped. Further down, it was very wet. There was hardly anything in between. Hopefully there will be something else in Tyrol this season and hopefully everyone stays healthy so that more ski resorts don't close (see Ischgl and South Tyrol...)
