Snow condition
Descent from the Mitterbergjoch on foot, there are still some stones sticking out. The ascent is possible with skins. We climbed up on the rope but skied down without - in obviously crevassed zones in the track, otherwise in beautiful powder snow. I've rarely been in high alpine terrain this early, so I can't draw any comparisons with other years.
Snow quality
Super powder snow, no wind cover despite good wind today. Sink depth approx. 20-30 cm.
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
Few relevant observations from our side. According to the LWD Tyrol blog, there are wind-influenced layers under the top layer that fell with little wind. To be honest, we haven't dug a profile etc. in the rather flat terrain.
Overall impression
Great start! Fantastic weather, great snow and surprisingly few people :-) The summit gully and north summit variants were also both skied today.
