Snow condition
The snow conditions from the valley station are sufficient to be able to ski down the emergency route to the glacier, but there are also places that are quite blown away and you have to watch out for stone contact. Into the terrain I would
Snow quality
On 16.12. it was unfortunately quite warm for a few hours with high humidity, and up to just under 2000m the formerly good powder had a very thin cover. On the glacier there was more and more wind influence during the day.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Altitude: 2200 m – 3200 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Watch out for fresh drift snow, a lot of snow was transported yesterday. According to the LWD, there is also a problem with old snow above 2400m on the north/east side.
Overall impression
I took advantage of the good weather and the limited touring options in Tyrol to take a look at the Pitztal. There is often not much snow on the glacier below 3000m and you have to watch out for possible crevasse zones. With the announced snowfall over Christmas, there may be more opportunities again.
