Snow report Pyrenees Orientales, 02/27/2014

Snow condition
At 2000m there is 1.5-2m, below that it quickly becomes less and at 1400 there is virtually nothing left. But that doesn't matter, the relevant areas are all around and above the tree line, i.e. above 2000m.
Snow quality
Yesterday was still very heavy because it was too warm (+1C at 1700m). With the recent snowfall, which started shortly after midday, the temperature has dropped significantly (-4C) and the snow is now nice and fluffy even down here.
Risks
As I haven't been out much and visibility is zero, I don't want to say much about it. According to MeteoFrance it's a 3, the recent snowfall and the wind, which can reach a good 100km/h in gusts, certainly won't help. Drifting snow ahoy!
Overall impression
A great start! The peach trees are blossoming in the Mediterranean, up here in the Capcir it was still changeable at first but now the snow has come through. Let's see how much comes together by tomorrow, with a bit of luck and a little less wind, the Powrenees could live up to their name:)o
