Snow condition
Excellent snow conditions for the end of December. In the village at 1600 m it's a good 50 cm, up at 2400 then 150 cm and more. Down to the bottom, everything is basically rideable without any problems, trunks and stones in the forest are thickly covered with snow. Snow has been falling on and off since Wednesday with lots of wind, a great basis for everything that's still to come.
Snow quality
Lots of fresh snow with unfortunately a lot of wind, so that it was very compacted in places. But still fluffy in the trees. Towards midday, it turned cardboardy as the temperature rose (it even rained briefly in the village).
Risks
LLB says three and I would be very careful over the next few days with the sometimes very large amounts of fresh snow (>1m in Formigueres) and the hurricane that is raging all the time. Wet snow slides are also possible at low altitudes with the onset of warming.
Overall impression
Deep winter first days in the Pyrenees and what a basis for the coming months. Now some more sun and everything will be fine.
