Update Niedere Tauern
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Slowly we can award the fourth star. Yesterday there was a lot of fresh snow, today there was some more, but the tracks were all closed again. With the exception of the denser forest, it's wonderful to ski everywhere above 1000m, in open terrain you can get into all the valleys (with a little caution) and the increasing wind is causing a very uneven distribution of the snow, especially above the tree line.
Snow quality
Unfortunately, it's gone down a bit. While there was still great snow yesterday despite the warming, it wasn't quite ideal today. In the valleys the snow is already very wet, at 1000m there's about 15cm of quite compact fresh snow on the fluffy powder from the day before yesterday and yesterday, and further up it's getting better in principle, but the wind has reached far below the tree line here and is also making for more compact snow.If you break through the top 20cm or so, there are some unpleasant dives into the softer and very deep snow below. I almost gave it 3 stars, but that would be a lot of complaining, because the snow is still great to ride.
Risks
Increasingly tense, especially due to the increasing wind. Whereas yesterday I had few concerns below the tree line, today everything was somehow more critical and unpleasant.
Overall impression
Unfortunately, the avalanche situation was a bit difficult, but now there is a top base.
Yesterday was much better than today, but it was still nice.
Unfortunately, I have misplaced my card reader, so there are currently no pictures.
