On average, there is very little snow on the Dachstein. The Hallstätter Glacier is still quite open in places. There is currently a large crevasse in the direction of Hoher Dachstein (this was not present in the current version last season). At the moment, it is better to set off only in good light conditions and with knowledge of the Hallstätter Glacier. In addition, all wind-exposed areas are heavily blown off.

With a clever choice of line, some of the powder was still easy to ride. The rest was a mixture of wind cover, slab powder and occasional frozen sections.

Risks

In addition to the old snow problem, the Dachstein is currently dominated by the danger of crevasses. On the gondola ascent, you could see traces of last week's rain on the south side up to well over 1700 m above sea level. During the course of the day, the snow became softer due to the rather warm temperatures. This increases the possibility of sliding snow avalanches in lower sunny areas.

A nice day in the best weather and finally back on skis. Nothing more but also nothing less.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
