Variations of snow cover

Well, according to the SLF in Valais it's average, but for my taste there's clearly too much forest and rocks up to 2,700, and clearly too many glacier areas above that. You'll certainly need another 50-100 cm of fresh snow here for really rewarding freeride days.

Snow quality

2 von 5 Sterne
Hard, pressed snow
Powder snow

Away from the pistes where there is enough snow, you can't complain about the snow quality. Soft layers up to approx. 2,500 lie on a solid base, below that it gets very narrow. Unfortunately, however, almost everything in the area has already been covered in snow! We might be able to see what it looks like on the glaciers tomorrow when visibility is better!

Risks

Old snow problem
Crevasse or fall danger
Rockfall danger
North North-West

Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)

There is currently a risk of falling rocks and falls. In addition, there has been a lot of wind recently and this is also reflected in some small drift snow packs.

Overall impression

Equal

Well, it's not really rewarding freeriding at the moment. But Saas Fee is located in an impressive glacier world (hence the 2nd star) and perhaps in better weather there will be more rewarding variants to discover.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
