Basically, there is a usable snow cover on the Simplon (2000m). However, it is very inhomogeneously distributed on the mountain due to the wind.
Snow quality
If you think about putting on crampons at the start, that says a lot. Ice, ice balls on slab powder, a layer of hard snow on the north side. Windy terrain... Square meters of powder fields.
Risks
Were in the border area between a 3 and a 2 region. Subjectively, the drift snow packs are no longer disturbing. Not powerful enough, well connected. Certainly a different assessment on extremely steep slopes.
Overall impression
Super nice tour to the Breithorn with miserable ascent conditions and zero expectations. The descent was almost piste-like, with two powdery sections, and was definitely fun.
