Snow en masse in Valais
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
There's a whopping 20cm of snow on the piste from the top down to the valley. The snow line is at 1300m. At the bottom, it's hard to slushy, but that only affects the valley run. Off-piste it's all chic up to 2200m, the base in Valais hides all possibilities for core shots.
Snow quality
It continues to snow throughout the day, but it's quite warm, which is why the snow doesn't rush over your shoulders - but you still ride into one or two whiterooms and the bottom is rather difficult to slushy.
Risks
The avalanche risk increases throughout the day and crawls up to a 3 in the afternoon. Everything up to 35 degrees goes and holds, despite the influence of the wind. As the day warms up, we observe a glacier collapse of immense size with a dust avalanche outside the area at around 3 pm.
Overall impression
Very nice day, unfortunately too little visibility for gully crawling and now too much snow. Many crevasses that are normally still open at this time of year are filled to the top with snow. The summit slope on the Mittelallalin is a popular freeride alternative and the Kiwi route with fluffy 38 degree slopes is also flowy!
