Snow report Salzburger Land North, 01/06/2017
A little update on yesterday, as there was finally some real visibility today and the wind has really picked up again.

Snow condition
Despite the low temperatures (-25 °C in the morning), the fresh snow was able to settle a little. Compared to yesterday, the wind had already worked on exposed areas again. We were in the same corner as yesterday and our ascent tracks from yesterday had already completely disappeared in some places. High up in the Alps, the snow conditions looked extremely uneven. We were able to observe some ski tourers in the high alpine terrain. Some of it didn't look so inviting, i.e. tinkering through rocks.
Snow quality
As already mentioned above, there has been a slight subsidence. The quality is still very good in wind-protected locations in the forest.
Risks
Today we finally had decent visibility and that's the real reason for an update. Some of the drift snow deposits at the transition from windward to leeward at the tree line are very considerable with a height of 1m upwards. High up in the Alps, the sections with far too little snow were clearly visible (unfortunately I had the wrong lens with me). You could see the snow plumes on all the peaks. Today the hotspots were still clearly visible. With today's snowfall, it will be very difficult to recognize the dangers tomorrow when visibility is poor. Very passive action will be essential tomorrow. Better to stay in the known area.
Overall impression
Another beautiful, albeit very short tour today in good weather and still very good snow! Even the icy temperatures didn't bother us today. Let's see how the overall situation develops over the next few days.
