Snow report Salzburger Land North, 01/15/2016
Winter feelings at last in the BGL!
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
All in all, it's still extremely below average, with around 30 cm of fresh snow in the middle and upper elevations, and driving in the forest is still out of the question, but at least you can now walk up there... From about 1500m in open (meadow) terrain it is now possible to ski without breaking through.
Snow quality
Very fine! Cold and fluffy. Apart from the lack of a base, there's nothing to criticize about the quality in windless areas, but the influence is immediately noticeable on more windy slopes.
Risks
Below the tree line relatively unproblematic, with hardly any drifts to be seen, and due to the lack of a base in many places, there are also few weak layers in the lower areas, but further up it looks quite different. There are also strong gusts of wind and massive drifts.
Overall impression
Nice two stars for the long-awaited beginning of winter and at least good snow quality.Poor visibility outside the forest and strong winds made the stay on the summit rather uncomfortable. All in all, however, not many tours/routes in open terrain are possible. If there were as much more after the set, many tours would be possible.15 cm should come at least until Monday.
