Snow report Salzburger Land North, 01/15/2020

Snow condition

1*It gets a little worse every day. Due to the sometimes very compact snow cover, sometimes even 10 cm are enough to slide around somewhere, but on the shaded side it's reasonably good from 1300m. None of the high classics in the lower Saalachtal can be recommended.

Snow quality

2* Harsch dominates all expos (except maybe very high and on the north side, but I wasn't there).south side you can expect firn on steep slopes from later in the morning, I was still a touch too early, so still a bit rough in places.otherwise partly hard, sometimes a tough brittle top.

Not very critical. I've seen an older, medium-sized sliding snow slide on a steep grassy slope (SW). That might be the only thing that could still happen.

Overall impression

Exercise therapy with beautiful views and very warm conditions on the mountain.
Unfortunately, I had to leave a touch too early, so I only caught a short, really firny section.
2* for the views, solitude and numerous animal tracks.
The tough and sweaty 15 minutes of bushwacking at the end weren't really necessary either.
At the rest area at 1600m SW, a large swarm of flies could be seen, eagerly performing sun dances! :O
We need more snow!
