Snow condition
In the good old border triangle snow hole T-S-BY it still looks quite good in the valley. 20-30 cm of compact old snow, even in the forest. This then increases to 50-70 cm up to medium altitudes. The amount of fresh snow below is insignificant. However, the foehn aisles have been hit hard, with some of them being frozen again up to 1000 m altitude (foothills). As in the whole region, the snow conditions - which are suitable for skiing - tend to decrease again from the tree line upwards because all past precipitation has been blown away. At the top 5, in places 10cm of cold fresh snow.
Snow quality
The one or other pocket at the top was quite dusty, but you can actually always get through onto the hard surface. In addition, there are a few wet snow bumps that you can easily get caught in. The middle section is quite fun for a short time, on 5-10 cm of fresh snow with a soft, damp base that quickly becomes harder again further down.
Risks
Situation report stage 2: The snowpack looks quite well consolidated, drift snow packs are quite small-scale and easy to see. Since I suspect the old snow problem behind the descent on Staufen the day before yesterday (N, 1650 m) and the LLB still warns of this, especially here in the east, we didn't opt for anything north-facing and/or very steep today. No observations, except in the distance steep on south gliding snow activity (around 1500m)
Overall impression
More of a training tour today, but also a lot of fun.
The most positive thing for me today: the hairdryer hasn't destroyed everything and at least in the second row of mountains the base is still right down into the valley, even in the forest. What's more, the mountain pines are finally starting to disappear into the concrete
