Snow report Salzburger Land North, 02/02/2018
10 cm fresh and lots of fun
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
10cm have fallen in the middle areas since yesterday. Presumably it won't be much more further up, otherwise as usual, bad at the bottom - good at the top, low locations, sunny expos and dense forest (further down) should be avoided.
Snow quality
Very fine. The 10 cm fell cold and calmly. Underneath you can almost always feel the old snow cover, which is sometimes quite hard. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun. More like 3.5*.
Risks
Moderate. The hard old snow cover offers little resistance and is often slippery, but in the lower areas the fresh snow is sometimes already well set. We have seen many old sliding snow chutes, which you should be aware of on steep grassy slopes over the next few days.
Overall impression
A very nice afternoon tour with great light and fresh snow.
Subjectively there is still a 4th *.
Overall, however, I had hoped for a little more fresh snow. In the lower areas, the fresh snow is already a bit stubborn due to the warming. In the steep terrain, you often slipped on the hard old snow cover when climbing up.
