Snow report Salzburger Land North, 02/04/2016
Unfortunately, much less than expected - plus heat and wind...

Snow condition
The "40 - 60cm in the last 48 hours" of the Salzburg LLB must have been dreaming, at least in the northern Alps about half of that is more realistic.below 1500m you have nothing to look for in the forest, above that you at least have to be very careful.it's not that far to a star...
Snow quality
At the bottom, the fresh snow is compact, settled and relatively heavy; above 1500m, the fresh snow is colder and drier, but the wind has worked hard here. The snow cover is very inhomogeneous and highly variable: wind-pressed, ice, blown-off areas and sometimes quite nice 25 cm of powder alternate.
Risks
Very compact and well-connected at the bottom, with heavy loads in the higher elevations, gullies and hollows sometimes well filled. The tricky 3 above the tree line was rightly awarded.
Overall impression
The nice atmosphere and a few nice turns can't hide the disappointment about the small amount of snow. tomorrow morning we'll go out and visit a high but wind-protected area, let's see if we can take something with us before the warmth.
