Snow condition
Around 40 cm + x have fallen over the past few days, creating a solid base in sheltered northern locations. In other exposures or wind-prone areas, the situation looks different again. Most of our tour today was in the northern exposure below the tree line and there were no problems with enemy contact.
Snow quality
Still very fine on the north side! There was a slight settling during the day. In other exposures (fortunately only for a few meters) the snow in the afternoon was only a little fun (some sun and a rise in temperature). The bottom line is 3.4 stars, which rounds down to 3.
Risks
We were only on the move up to the tree line. Above that, there were clear signs of wind damage in the form of fresh cornices. We also avoided steeper sections of forest today. In the wind-protected forest with moderate steepness, the snow cover made a very stable impression. We were also able to recognize a medium sized wet snowfall, probably from an east or southeast exposure, which most likely slid off at the beginning of the week.
Overall impression
A great day of touring with the boys in still good snow! Due to the higher temperatures in the coming days, the quality of the white gold in particular will suffer massively again...
