As far as snow conditions are concerned, there is no ground contact to complain about. However, the busy area in Heutal is not ideal for untouched, meter-deep powder slopes. You have to put up with the heavy tracks or know your way around.

Snow quality

The snow had a light cover on the sunny side. On the ascent, we also noticed frost on the snow layer (see pictures). On the shaded side, we made some great turns in soft snow. Unfortunately, some of these were disrupted by sudden patches of hardpack.

Risks

The avalanche situation was estimated to be moderate for the Chiemgau Alps below 2000 meters. Above that a 3. The frost with its coarse crystals mentioned in the snow quality could form as a weak and rolling layer later on with large amounts of fresh snow.

The weather was super cool! And the descent had a lot to offer. That's why I'm giving it three stars at this point.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!

Thank you for your contribution to the PowderGuide project!
