Snow report Salzburger Land North, 02/10/2015
Ski tour WatzmannGugel (700 - 1800m, Exp. North)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Sufficient at the bottom, good at the top. Even at this low altitude, only grazing a patch of grass in an old track once speaks for itself.
Snow quality
Very wet in the lower half from midday onwards, especially in the forest; in the upper half, very settled, still cold powder snow.
Risks
The Bavarian warning service says level 2 above 1800, level 1 below, then from the afternoon also 2 due to diurnal warming. I can confirm this so far, except that the warming on our purely northern side only had an impact up to ~1300m and a 'two' at high altitudes is perhaps stacked too low.
Overall impression
Very nice tour, great sunbathing on the summit and then a super descent. Definitely preferable to a rather stressful day in the ski resort.
