Snow report Salzburger Land North, 02/12/2016
Another forest tour in the Northern Alps
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
There was light precipitation in the morning. However, this did not bring any significant amounts of fresh snow. On sheltered north-facing slopes, the base in the forest is great, but in other exposures it's not particularly thick, so it could soon become very thin to the south and west. Temperatures were also higher today than yesterday.
Snow quality
Still really good on north-facing slopes! Compared to yesterday, the powder has settled slightly, but this wasn't disturbing at all. On the south side, there was a light cover in the morning and the snow was quite heavy in the afternoon. On the west-facing slopes, there was even slush towards the valley in the afternoon.
Risks
Quite relaxed here in the northern exposure in the forest. Avalanches could already be heard from the steeper southern slopes in the morning. The ones we could see were rather small. Nevertheless, it's interesting to see ski tourers bumbling around alone on steep south-facing slopes in the afternoon, with small avalanches constantly coming down to the left and right....
Overall impression
Today it was only really good in the north. The weather was also perfect and all in all it was another great day!
