Snow condition
There is not much more to write about the dramatic snow conditions. Only in particularly favorable snow holes is there sufficient snow on a small scale, and only in very few exceptional cases can you ski down without interruptions if the starting point is very high up and the exposure and subsoil are favorable. In the forest it starts from 1300-1400m on the shaded side.
Snow quality
Today was one of the most strenuous descents in a long time. Broken, wind-pressed and melted snow, with small powder pockets in between, made for an exciting downhill experience. Pure combat skiing. From about 1200m upwards, the powder layer from Thursday was still in the shade, with concrete slush underneath, which was also quite nice to ski.
Risks
In the lower elevations there is little snow, above the tree line there is quite a lot. The snowpack as a whole is quite heterogeneous and often compact, and in very sheltered locations there is a surprising amount of sluff in the steep terrain, so you should definitely keep an eye on this in such places.
Overall impression
Beautiful, strenuous day in wild, brilliant terrain. The snow was really challenging though.
It's been a long time since I've ridden together with one of my favorite people, which was of course a very subjective positive factor.
