As usual: bad at the bottom, great at the top, at least you could slide down into the valley thanks to the recent fresh snowfall, but below 1000-1100m you can't do anything in structured terrain and in the forest.

Above 1800m: mega! Cold, fluffy powder. Above 2000m about 30 cm, below that it's soft, in the lower areas it's about 10cm, but the hard old snow cover often comes through.

Risks

Low at lower elevations. Very compact old snow cover with (5-)10cm of fresh snow on top, getting much deeper at higher altitudes. We were on the summit slope exactly in the critical zone mentioned in the LLB, north-facing, high and close to the ridge, but considered this to be acceptable today. When digging, we didn't find any relevant weak layer, the fresh snow is powdery and unbound over more settled and soft snow layers. The slopes were all well used last week, but all the old tracks were completely covered in snow and couldn't be felt.

Very nice day on one of the classic tours in the Berchtesgaden Alps.
The view at the top was also fantastic.
It's not often that you get to ski up one of the possible summit variants on a Sunday at a moderate start time with up to 30 cm of powder.
Luckily there were strong trackers with us ;)
