Snow condition
Between one and two stars. Above approx. 1700m, a maximum of 10 cm was added from yesterday to today. However, you can hardly ski down into the valley without unbuckling. Up to about 1300m you can hardly think about skiing off-piste, there are only remnants on roads, slopes or favorable alpine meadows, in very well protected and blown-in flanks, gullies and depressions above about 16-1700m there can be a meter or a little more on the snow side and in small areas. The higher altitudes often don't have a proper base and you can hardly do anything sensible at the top. All in all, terrible for the time of year.
Snow quality
So above about 1700m it was quite cool. The 10 cm or a little more powder is deeper than it is in areas with a soft layer of old snow. Below that, the whole program: dust on crust, harsch, bruschharsch, sulz (in the sun below) and lots of icy stuff. So it's quite challenging, but also quite fast snow, which is of course a good thing.
Risks
The situation report gives a 1 below 1800m and a 2 above and I think that fits well. All in all, it can be quite unpleasant in some areas, e.g. steep traverses in drop-off terrain, as we had a few times today, especially when it's still hard. The risk of falling due to the poor snow conditions is also an issue.
Overall impression
Cool day with my most favorite skihomie, but it's the company and the great terrain that make the difference.
Besides, we didn't have to carry as much as with most other things and had the descent all to ourselves.
All in all, it looks very dark...
