Snow condition
Well, not much has changed in the north-east. The high altitudes have really little snow, but you can definitely do a few things. It's best in shady, structured areas between 1600 and 1800m. The difference between the shady and sunny sides is striking: While there is still snow in the shade at 1200m (no forest!), the southern sides are almost completely bare right up to the summit regions > 2000m.
Snow quality
Very variable, but relatively ok. At the very top there was deep floating snow, great for skiing. Unfortunately only about 100 m up. After that, wind-pressed slab powder and warm powder alternated above the tree line. In the sparse forest of the higher elevations, warm, moist powder on top of the harsh cover. Not quite flowy, but not bad either. At the bottom you can choose between sticky slush/powder (in the sun) or fast harsch/ice.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Relatively stable overall. The warming was limited. However, you should keep the floating snow layer at the top in mind.
Overall impression
Very beautiful, but also very long and strenuous tour with two counter ascents. The snow could have been a bit better on the ingenious mini-pillow slope, but overall it was ok. Amazing ambience and hardly anything going on. But it looks really bad for the spring tours if it continues like this....
