Snow report Salzburger Land North, 03/11/2020
Small early morning sports session
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Bad. With high starting points and favorable ground, however, you can still avoid carrying at least in a few places. Below 1200m nothing works, from 1400m you can also go into the forest. From 10-20cm upwards, however, it's okay because the snow cover is very compact due to the wetness and warmth and encloses the obstacles well. The fresh snow from yesterday evening (+10cm at 1600m) was gone this morning (-5cm, same station).
Snow quality
All wet, but quite grippy and compact when rutted. Further down in the untouched then unfortunately a bit slow, but still ok, partly nice to smear. Yesterday's waxing session certainly didn't hurt.
Risks
Below 1500m according to the Bavarian LB a 2 and that fits quite well. Many areas at this altitude also have too little snow for major descents. In very steep and heat-exposed areas where there is still some snow, I can still imagine a certain danger. In the higher altitudes, there's probably a drift snow problem, but I haven't been there.
Overall impression
Nice, short early morning exercise in warm temperatures, okay snow and acceptable visibility.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get to the higher starting point due to a temporary road closure and therefore had to stay on the edge of a ski area, but it was ok.
The general snow conditions were just too bad, same old story...
