Snow report Salzburger Land North, 03/20/2015
Beautiful firn tour in the southern Steinernes Meer

Snow condition
The south side was generally pretty bad this year, although with a little skill it was even possible to ski down into the valley.
Snow quality
Almost perfect firn. The untracked flank was really fun. The descent was on the south-east side at 10.00 am and that was just right. On the south side it didn't firn up properly due to the incoming clouds. Not much fun on the north side at the moment.
Risks
Relaxed if you pay attention to the (limited) diurnal cycle. Some small wet snow slides at lower elevations on the southeast side.
Overall impression
Perfect route choice, untracked firn, sun until 10.00 am and another descent to the car. Wonderful (especially in comparison to yesterday's purely north-facing tour, which had consistently challenging snow conditions).
