Snow report Salzburger Land North, 03/21/2017
Testing equipment in the swamp - Short tour east of Chiemgau
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
High starts are essential, below ~1300m there is only continuous snow on purely north-facing, open slopes, in the forest another 200 m higher.Above 1600 m there was still a centimeter of fresh snow (wet) to be seen this morning, which then reduces the braking work on the descent.
Snow quality
approx. 50% already quite lazy due to overcast night, the rest somewhere between damp and wet. Not necessarily dependent on altitude, but rather influenced by the proximity to trees/forest. A small steep slushy section on the summit slope was fun, otherwise there was nothing to get today.
Risks
Today the Bavarians in Chiemgau issued a level one (wet/slippery snow problem). Didn't see any mouths or similar in the moderate terrain of the Dürrnbachhorn.
Overall impression
I wouldn't have started today if I hadn't wanted to try out the new shoes/bindings before the next tough tours. And rightly so. The touring season in Chiemgau is as good as over. The carrying passages are quickly getting longer.
