Snow condition
The snow conditions in the sheltered north-facing accumulation area are great. There was around 20 cm to 25 cm of fine fresh snow overnight. The snowfall continued throughout the day with varying intensity. The situation looks much worse in other exposures, so three stars only apply to the sheltered north side.
Snow quality
North side at its finest!!! The fresh snow lies on a set powder base and therefore there are no bumps and no contact with the base. In other exposures, the fresh snow lies on a frozen crust or on harsh snow and therefore leads to no cheers. 4 stars are only awarded for the shady, sheltered north side.
Risks
Not quite without! The LWD reported a 2 for > 1800 m. We couldn't confirm this for sunny exposures! The fresh snow slides away immediately on a hard surface and the wind has also built up a lot of drift snow, which was also very easy to trigger. Fortunately, we only did a few vertical meters in the affected area. In the protected forest area, on the other hand, there was hardly any wind influence and there was mostly sluff.
Overall impression
A very fine day!!! We had the right instinct and were rewarded with super powder snow. This makes touring really fun even in bad weather!
