Snow condition
Basically very good snow conditions for the time of year and altitude, but before the snowfall there was sometimes no base below 1300m. You have to be very careful in the denser forest and you always have to reckon with base contact below 1300m(2*) On our main descent, however, the snow conditions were excellent(4*)
Snow quality
From the parking lot about 30cm of fresh snow, quickly rising to 40-50cm. Nice cold powder. From about 1300m, massive wind influence and correspondingly variable snow quantity and quality. Nevertheless, the more or less bound drift snow was good for face shots.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: no wind
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
The LWS was appropriate in view of the amount of snow and the wind. Steep terrain where the wind came in is definitely critical. It's going to rumble tomorrow. No observations.
Overall impression
April Powder is always something special. Even more special with the crowds and the almost dramatic setting. I wasn't sure whether we should go any further due to the sometimes very adverse conditions. But the face shots proved us right.
