Snow report Salzburger Land North, 04/28/2015
Traumtour mit Neuschnee, Eis, Wind und Sonne...

Snow condition
At the bottom, you sometimes have to carry a long way. It started from 1450 m above sea level today. At the top it was actually still quite decent.
Snow quality
Very different. 10 cm of fresh snow, but with a lot of wind. Very variable in small areas. The rain and wind created ice slabs in places. But: You could definitely find nice powder pockets. On the descent, from around 2000m above sea level, everything was nice and soft and great to ski.
Risks
Unproblematic. Strongly changing conditions in small areas. Old snow very compact. The new snow has been transported, but the quantities are too small. Observe the diurnal cycle.
Overall impression
Simply beautiful. Super distant views, spectacular clouds, > 1000 m descent, very nice skiing at the bottom and not a soul on the way. The fact that, as you can read in the Salzburg LLB, "normal ski tours are no longer an issue in the northern Alps" is complete nonsense. They rarely get out. Well, that's fine by me...
