Snow condition
I've never done this tour so late in the year with such good snow conditions. Cycling from home to do a ski tour with a 1000 m descent in the middle of May feels fantastic.
Snow quality
Modest compared to winter during the week, but not too bad either. As soon as the sun comes in, it quickly becomes very slow. Sporadic but good and firn-like, as well as broken harsch, down in the forest is actually the best - nice slushy summer firn. Good 2 *.
Risks
There's a constant crashing and rumbling from the east face, but nothing particularly unusual. Start early and avoid sunny sides.
Overall impression
Great tour in the most pleasant company, with great light and visibility conditions. It's nice that there's still a lot of snow in the high altitudes. Depending on what the coming warm rain does, there will still be plenty for a while.
Spoiled by the past two powder days during the week, the snow was of course rather poor, but the ambience and everything else made up for it. Subjective 4th * for me... ;)
We started from home at 6am and left at 10am. We were completely alone at the summit, but it's completely incomprehensible to me that we were met by numerous ski tourers on the descent. In my opinion, much too late
