Snow report Salzburger Land North, 10/23/2014
Start and end of the season? in Heutal
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
The tour started at just under 1000m, with 30-40 cm of wet snow in the morning, rising continuously to an average of 60 cm at 1600m (10-120 cm upwind)
Snow quality
Above 1300m relatively firmly pressed with soft, not wet surface, therefore easy to ride (even reminds a bit of firn). Below 1300m completely soaked, sticky, slowing down.
Risks
No activity observed, certainly not without on steep slopes either due to wind drifting or wet snow weight.
Overall impression
VERY successful start to the season, ground/rock contact as good as impossible, upper half very nice to ride, but unfortunately the snowmelt was already clearly noticeable in the afternoon, tomorrow you will have to overcome significantly more meltwater streams and possibly apere places (both below 1200m) in the same area.
