Snow report Salzburger Land North, 11/19/2017
Fresh snow, wind and poor visibility
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
From the middle altitudes onwards, around 10-20 cm was added, with strong winds. It's a bit better now on high altitude slopes and alpine meadows, but you can still get through from time to time. Nothing works in the forest and at lower altitudes.
Snow quality
Where untouched, pretty good! Partly a bit wind-treated, however, and much of it already rutted. Wind-exposed passages also partly very blown off.
Risks
The strong NW wind suggests a critical situation for the higher elevations, and there was also some drifting in the middle elevations (I was only up to 1500m and quite flat). The drifting snow showed a certain brittleness.
Overall impression
Already better than the last few days.
But you still have to pay a lot of attention to the ground. In some deep, flatter passages, you can let it go.
Strong winds and sometimes poor visibility didn't stop people from rushing out en masse.
The somewhat crazy black grouse was great and didn't let himself be disturbed (sorry for the bad cell phone zoom).
It would be nice if there was a lot more to come, unfortunately it's getting warmer now...
