Snow report Salzburger Land North, 12/13/2018

Snow condition

We were traveling in a classic traffic jam today. On average, this is where we've had the most snow in recent winters. Today we were only on the road as far as the tree line. Around 50 cm of fresh snow at the start. Most of the time, the amount of fresh snow varied between 50 cm and 75 cm. Towards the tree line, the meter mark was possibly broken (in some places). A lot was possible today with a careful driving style. However, this was the first real precipitation and consequently many obstacles are not yet really deep in snow. A well-considered choice of route protects both man and material!

Snow quality

The first ski tour of the season and with good snow too. The last few centimetres fell at temperatures well below freezing and ensured top snow quality. The pictures speak for themselves.

Quite relaxed in the forest. There was virtually no wind activity there. In the high alpine terrain, the areas exposed to the wind have very little snow. Even from a distance, the snow conditions there looked quite inhomogeneous. The sounds of small loose snow slides could be heard from the sunny steep terrain.

Overall impression

A perfect day, no people and great snow! The season can go on like this.
