Snow report Salzburger Land North, 12/15/2019
Weird snow skiing on the alpine meadow
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still underground, even though I've been here this year with less snow. above 1400m everything is possible on the snow side from 0-40 cm. on grassy ground you can slide around a bit. danger from sharks and everything that is not soft.
Snow quality
Above 1500m it is very variable and therefore challenging. Every turn is different, alternating between pressed snow, slab powder, ice, crushed harsh snow or set powder, but quite ok at lower altitudes, where there's only a thin crust of rain that's easy to rip, then underneath it's easy to smear, felty wet snow.
Risks
In the lower elevations, the snow cover and consistency vary greatly, but further up you can guess the severity of the storm, a lot of snow was transported there, but there is nothing to look for in the higher elevations anyway because of the small amount of snow.
Overall impression
Being outside is always good, on skis anyway.
However, this is hardly possible in the entire region, at least not really.
The next few days will deal the final deathblow to what little remains.
You can already see more joggers, hikers and bikers wobbling around.
