Snow condition
The tropical storms of the last few days have done a great job: nothing below 1000m, in open areas it starts at about 1200m, in the forest you only have to look for something from about 1400-1500m. On the other hand, since this morning we've had another 5-15 cm of snow in the middle layers.
Snow quality
Amazingly good! Above 1400m, moist but nice fresh snow, below that grippy, wet old snow - a really fun combination, but unfortunately very slow wet snow in the lower-middle areas. Waxing would have been highly recommended!
Risks
No snow at the bottom = no avalanches, but in steep areas on grass etc. there is certainly a massive wet snow problem in the middle areas where there is still snow, and drifting snow only in the higher areas.
Overall impression
A bit of a paradox, given the weather conditions (very poor visibility, rain below, sleet above), but it was really cool today! Of course, that's due to the downhill conditions further up, which was really nice.
Nevertheless, the loss of snow in the last 2 days is frightening...
I can't wait to see what the presents will bring, but the base is partly gone again...
