Snow report Salzburger Land North, 12/29/2020
+ 10cm on the foehn-stricken field
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still very bad. 10 cm were added last night (between 1200 - 1600m, less below that). Before that there was between 0 and 25 cm. You ski approx. 70/30 on snow or organic/mineral material.
Snow quality
Good. The fresh snow is powdery to slightly damp - depending on the expo. But the amount is indisputable.
Risks
In the middle to lower elevations there's not enough snow for serious problems, LLB says 1 at the bottom - 2 above 1800 m. Above that there's not much either, but heavy drifts in the high summit and ridge regions again today. But nothing is skiable there anyway.
Overall impression
Nice slide on wet fresh snow.
Great distant views and foehn moods.
Unfortunately, there is not enough snow in the region to do anything other than slide around on pistes or alpine meadows on stone skis.
There are masses of people out and about. Tw. even at high altitudes, which can only be explained by (temporary) mental derangement caused by snow desperation.
And: I love my Steinski!
