Snow condition
My feeling is that there is a bit more snow in the Ankogel group at around 1000 m than in the Goldberg group. That's why we went back to the Ankogel group today. The approach was on the east side, starting at 1000 m. During the tour, we changed our destination based on our visual perception and decided on a north-west-facing descent despite the sunshine (it just looked like there was less wind). The ridge and ridges have been well worked by the wind and are hard as a rock. Only a few meters further down the slope, the situation looks quite good again in wind-protected areas. On the sunny side, things are slowly but surely getting thin. A start from the valley level is not advisable.
Snow quality
Despite the north-west-facing descent (start at approx. 2200 m) with sunshine, we got quite good conditions. The snow was still good to ski, well-packed powder that was not yet heavy. In the forest, the snow finally became a little heavier (whining at a high level). The last few meters to the car on hoar frost were also quite fun.
Risks
The wind has brought snow close to the crest (visual assessment) on the larger peaks today. Numerous sliding snow cracks can be seen on the sunny side and a few rather small loose snow avalanches came down from sunny terrain after midday today. The temperatures today felt like spring ski tours. The drift snow is still very clearly visible and was close to the ridge today as well as some off-camber. With the coming precipitation, the overall situation will change and the potential danger spots will no longer be recognizable. LWS "moderate" for >2500 m definitely applied.
Overall impression
Took advantage of the great weather for another long tour and was rewarded with good snow. Let's see what precipitation comes on Saturday.
