Snow condition
Good snow conditions. But only in comparison to the usual values (in the valley) in Gastein. Compared to the nordstau, far below. But still much easier and more comfortable than usual in the forest.
Snow quality
Yesterday (4.02.2019) great fresh snow from Saturday / Sunday (wild snow!) on the north side in wind-protected terrain chamber. Today on the sunny side already clearly settled and partly even crusty.
Risks
Sliding snow avalanches (and cracks) on the steep south-facing slopes all around, some of considerable dimensions.
Overall impression
Yesterday on the Graukogel, leisurely and solitary freeriding (with very short climbs back to the ski area). The lift routes and forest directly in the ski area are good and nice to ride, even if they are already clearly tracked. Today on the Stubnerkogel / Schlossalm there was a lot of track (not surprising anyway) and the snow was already unsightly on the south side due to the sun.
